After the discovery of child abuse or neglect, many survivors and their family members are given recommendations for multiple services. While well-intentioned, this onslaught on services can lead to overlapping services, hours of appointments each week, contradictory messaging and expectations, and even missed opportunities when one provider assumes another is doing something. This workshop is intended to identify ways that members of a multidisciplinary team can work in an efficient manner in their role while effectively collaboratively towards the common goal. Strategies on establishing clear expectations and ensuring ongoing communication throughout service provision will be discussed, along with managing conflict and disagreement between providers.

Participating in the justice system as a victim or witness can be especially confusing, distressing, and even re-traumatizing for children and youth. This workshop will educate participants on best practices to support children and youth during their involvement with the justice system as a victim or witness to crime.
Objectives
As a result of this training, participants will be able to:
Explain the legal process to a child/youth in a developmentally appropriate manner.
Familiarize the child/youth with the basics of courtroom technology, procedures, and personnel.
Explore strategies that will help a child/youth cope with the difficult feelings that might come up while in court.

Holly Adams, Ontario County attorney, will present the live-streamed workshop from 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 28 on Zoom.
She will discuss the various legal systems, laws common to victims and offenders of interpersonal violence, roles of service providers, and how each can intersect with the other to prevent and treat those impacted by violence.
The training also will be recorded for on-demand viewing later.

This training supports participants in gaining insight helpful to working with those who live in poverty. This session discusses strategies to increase skills and knowledge related to the culture of poverty, raise our individual and group awareness about biases as it relates to poverty, and enhance the understanding of children and families to assist in strengthening interactions.
Objectives
Learners will:
Learn the differences between generational and situational poverty
Know the hidden rules behind patterns in poverty, middle class, and wealth
Understand the differences and impact of language between poverty and middle class
Gain strategies for building relationships with families experiencing poverty

Part of the Interpersonal Child Trauma Training program, the live-streamed workshop will discuss the fundamental aspects of sex trafficking and sexual abuse of children and youth. Similarities and differences in offender tactics, symptomology and intervention needs will be discussed.
Ahlea Howard, from the International Institute of Buffalo, will present the session from 2 to 4 p.m. Jan. 25 on Zoom.

We're excited to host our first Virtual Lunch & Learn of 2022!
Autumn and Melissa, both from Safe Harbors of the Finger Lakes, will present "The Task Force Referral and Rapid Indicator training."
The training provides a brief overview of human trafficking and our MDT protocol and response.
The training is designed to build comfortability using OCFS trafficking screening tools, as well as increase understanding of how we work as a team to meet youth where they are and provide appropriate and necessary services.
If you have not attended a Task Force Referral and Rapid Indicator training yet or need a refresher, we highly suggest you attend this training to gain the necessary information as to how to identify and refer a client experiencing trafficking.

Stewards of Children uses real people and real stories to show you how to protect children.
The session is open to the public.
